New patrol service of Kiev has rendered assistance to more than 200 homeless persons according to statistics from Homeless Rescue Service.
219 calls were recorded from police officers for 2 months. It is 35% of all calls, received by Homeless Rescue Service for this period.
“When new police started working, the number of calls increased rapidly” – says Elena Polischuk, the President of Charity Fund “Social Partnership”. This fact eases our work, because we had to patrol the city ourselves before and seek for the homeless who needed our help. Now it is often the case when policemen deliver homeless people to our Fund. We did not see such attitude from the previous police service.
Policeman Andrey Vesela knew about “Rescue Service” during study and saved it in his cell phone.
Andrey first came across Homeless Rescue Service when he arrived on call in Dneprovsky district. Locals called and ask to help a homeless person with paralyzed legs.
Policeman called 911, but the homeless person refused admission. So Andrew remembered about Homeless Rescue Service. The employees of the Service arrived and rendered assistance to the homeless, fed him and gave clean clothes.
“We deal with homeless persons like we do with other people – says the policeman. When conflicts arise we talk to people, and when a person needs medical care we call ambulance or Homeless Rescue Service”.
“Homeless Rescue Service” has been functioning since 6th of February 2015 and has rendered assistance to more than 1500 homeless persons. Medical brigade take care and gives food and clothes to the homeless if needed. They also bring people in need to the day care center for provision of other free services, if necessary.
